Sleep Walking
So this morning on my way home from work, I fell asleep on the metro. Woke up at Minnesota Ave metro...yikes!! It's 315am, of course there is no cab in this "area." So I start my journey home. Oh, as I approach the intersection of Benning Rd and Minnesota, to my surprise, I see a cab with his light on.... I start waving my hands frantically and shouting, "cabbie, cabbie, please, I need you!" Cab driver looks me right in my eyes and makes a U-turn headed toward downtown... You idiot, thats where I'm headed!! So at this point, I start walking west on Benning Rd, hoping that I would see another cab so that this time, I can attempt to stop him/her by jumping in front of the cab.... Probably not a good idea, but I was desperate.... I'm tired, hungy, cold, because on this day, I forgot to pack my authentic under armour cold gear... I hit my uberX app; big surprise, none in service..... So I'm still walking, toes cold, feet hurting, I feel my boot rubbing on the right side of my pinky toe. I stop, get a good tie on my boots and as I look up, I see the sign for River Terrace Park, and I'm thinking, well its about 345a, should be light soon, that grass sure does look comfy right about now. I was that tired, I was considering sleeping on a bed of grass...Wow!! I start calling and texting frat bros and friends and family.... But no response. So I keep moving, and moving, and moving, and stop and lean on a building to get my composure... And the boys in blue pull up, "hey sir, can we help you?" sure, I need a ride home, boy in blue, "just call a cab" and pulls off with his lights and sirens. Thanks for that outstanding recommendation, I should have thought of that a mile back.... So I'm walking again, this time slower, each step more precise as to not burn what little energy I have left. This homeless woman notices me moving ever so gently and says, "baby boy, here you go," and tosses me a brand new pack of Dr. Scholls insoles. Now I'm excited, got some pep in my step, God just shined on me!! Finally, after walking 3 miles from Minnesota Metro Station, I see another cab, I start waving my hands, but it looks as if he may not stop, so I take my backpack off and toss it in the middle of the road.... I'm not about to let another cab escape me... Suddenly he pulls over and says, "you need a cab? next time just wave and yell, cabbie." Another outstanding recommendation, I finally made it home at 435a.... Blessings to the homeless woman and cab driver for looking out for a brother!!
